Sickness and absence

Sickness
Ofsted requires us to have an infection control policy, which means that a child who is obviously not well should not be brought into St George’s. If your child becomes unwell while in our care, we will contact you and arrange immediate collection. We therefore require at least one current emergency number and it is vital that these numbers are kept up-date.

Any child who has suffered a bout of diarrhoea or sickness must not return for at least 48 hours, and then only when they are well enough to return. Children suffering from conjunctivitis must also stay away until their eyes are clear and free from infection.

Notifcation of absence
We would appreciate notification if your child is to be absent from their normal session. Ofsted require us to mark the registers differently for holidays and sickness and if their absence is due to a contagious or infectious illness we need to notify other parents by displaying this information on the notice boards. All absences must be paid for.

Medication
If your child has been prescribed medication, the childcare staff will administer the dosage as and when it is required. On these occasions you will be asked to complete and sign a medicine form. St George’s is not allowed to keep or administer any medication other than those listed and accepted on the consent form. Therefore, parents must supply and sign-in any skin creams or other non-prescribed medication that they wish their child to take. This must be within date and also be clearly marked with their child’s name and the dosage required.
